5. But you got [insert x information here] wrong!!

First, read this.

Back? Cool. Having said that, I recognise that Reno is a very popular character that a lot of people feel very strongly about. I'm not so hugely invested in a fictional character that I won't take alternative viewpoints, and I'm always interested in hearing them, subject to people being constructive about it, of course.

So, if you have a well-thought out comment and reasoned argument as to why I have gone completely off-base in some place, feel free to drop it in my comments section. Provide references if you can (bearing in mind I have complete scripts of AC & FF already, and partial scripts of BC, as well as English copies of the short stories set in between FF and AC), and please use real English (to the best of your ability). If the comment amounts to something like "this story suxxors!", spam, is 1337speek or some rant, while you are completely within your rights to have that opinion, I am within my rights to delete it.

Others can also feel free to disagree with you, btw, but if the comments section starts to degenerate, I'll delete the lot and remove the comments section altogether, again. The main reason I took this story down for 6 months, apart from wanting to do some major changes, is because of the pedantic ranting that happened on the last site.

If I don't change the story, doesn't mean I don't agree. It just means I'm serving the story. Story is King, Queen and Eternal Goddess. :-)

6. But I want Reno to be with [insert character I haven't used here]!

OK, I get it. We all have our favourite mixups, Rude x Reno being the most common after Cloud x pick one of the girls, or Vincent, or, uh, Reno. I'm never going to keep everyone happy here, and I'm not trying to. If you read the stories, you will see why Reno ends up with who he does, when he does, in my version of the SE universe, which is not the same as everyone else's version of the SE universe.

I won't do unlikely pairings (even if I happen to like them). That means there'll be no Reno x Tifa (like Reno would go after a woman his partner has a past or present thing for. Give him some credit), Reno x Cid (Cid's married, clearly het, and never in town), Reno x Vincent (Actually, I like this one, but Vincent is also het with no obvious conversational ambiguities and still obsessed with his past female love. And probably celibate, all things considered, given he goes "beast" whenever he gets overheated in any way) or Reno x Barret (are you freakin' kidding me??).

The other thing I have avoided, despite thinking it's entirely possible, if not probable, is the "Reno was a man whore before the Turks" storyline, mostly because it's already been written to death, in stories good and bad, often used as a lazy reason why Reno will screw anything that moves, to keep both the "Reno is het" and "Reno is slashed" fans happy. This is not a Bad Thing; it's just not my thing any more. So those who liked my Reno-man-whore stories from before, I am very sorry. I wanted to try a bit more of a challenge, character-wise. But, don't worry. There's plenty of it out there if that's what floats your boat.

Having said all of that, if you really want Reno paired up with, say, Tifa or Vinnie, go and write some fic. Give it a try. There's room for everyone. Drop me a line to let me know how you go, I'd love to read it.

I'd rather not enter into debate, though. These characters were all created by writers who had their own intentions. I won't say that we shouldn't write fanfic about them (duh) but who are we to proscribe what's "real" for them? There is nothing more annoying than fangurls who demand that SE bring Aerith back to life or some such nonsense because that's how they want it. It's SE's story, for pity's sake.

And if I have to spend all of my time debating the issues, I'll never get any actual writing done.

Besides, Reno is more than who he happens to be screwing right now.

7. Isn't Denzel actually Reno's son?

I've answered this because I saw this wholly laughable comment seriously discussed on a popular FF board, based only on the "fact" that some person had a pre-released poster that seemed to link the two together, and they look, sort of, alike.

Let's deal with this stupidity once and for all, eh? Quoted from the English translation of the short story The Case of Denzel, published by Square Enix: "Denzel was the only son of Eber [sometimes translated as Abel], who worked hard in Shinra's Third Business Department and Chloe, a very social person and who was good at tending to the house. The three of them lived in a Shinra owned residence in the Seventh Sector, The Plate." 'Nuff said?

Oh, obviously Cloud and Tifa aren't Denzel's real parents either, but his foster parents. If that. Added this point because I've seen people say, in all seriousness, that they thought Denzel was Cloud and Tifa's biological son. I mean, kids in FF games grow up faster than they do on Days of Our Lives, but birth to 11/12 years old in 2 years or less? That's just ridiculous.

8. Is Rude's name really Rudolph?

Nothing SE has ever written indicates that it is Rudolph. Poetic license: I daresay I'm not the only one using it. :)
